Speckled Sussex Description

The speckled Sussex is believed to be the original colour variety and when the Sussex club formed in 1903 it was claimed to be the most commonly seen. Each feather should be tipped with an even size white spot, a narrow glossy black bar divides the white from the red/mahogany. However, it is unlikely you will ever find a bird with white spots at the tip of each and every feather. The colours of each feather should not mix and ideally there should not be any dark peppering on the ground colour. The under colour is slate and red. The utility quality can vary and is not likely to be as good as the light Sussex.
